Multi Paged Form mandatory field

Hello Experts,
I have trouble adding a grid form to the Multi Paged Form.
When implementing the Multi Paged Form the field "Parent Form Field to keep Child Form ID *" is mandatory. When enter a field name the parent form will save. But when a enter a record via the parent form in de subform a new parent record is created. This is obviously not the idea.
So I looked at the example app "Simple Employee Management for clues. When I looked at the field "Parent Form Field to keep Child Form ID *" it showed up empty! How is that possible?
So my question is: how do I implement a multi paged form with grid forms?
