as I see status only gives info about process is running, aborted etc. I wish to inform users at which step the process is in.

You can use hidden field with a default value (Eg: Stage 1 or Stage 2) in Form Builder to store the stage of the process as it flows from Form A to Form B to Form C and display this field in the datalist column.

The Process Status element does show the previous steps. But it cannot show the future steps because that could depend on many possible options, depending on your process flow. For example, the next step might be Approved, or Cancelled, etc so how would you know what is next? In other words, it cannot tell the future.
