Can't add a user - V6.0-RC

We are preparing for an application demo tomorrow and, for the first time in a long time, we are adding new users. We are now upgraded to V6.0-RC. I’m not sure if it relates to V6.0-RC but, while we can modify existing users, if we try to add a new users the screen repaints and the passwords disappear but the the screen with all of our user data just returns with no error messages and the user is not added. We have gone into the Directory settings plugin and removed all password restrictions/limitations but we still get the same result. We have tried all sorts of combinations of entries also to the same result. There are only 15 users and we are licensed for 25.
Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks, Bill
