Virtual Server vs Physical Server

In hardware requirements page on Joget knowledge-base, for a heavy load they recommended to use 2 application servers and load balancer, with a single database server.

What's the difference, and which one better, if we use a single virtual server with the spec of the two application servers combined.

I think it actually depends on your requirements and resources.
If looking for high availability, then everything have to be redundant.
You can put everything into one server with high spec and implement tomcat clustering, but that node will be a single point of failure.
